Avirodh Sharma - Artist, Composer, Producer

Avirodh Sharma is an internationally renowned tabla virtuoso celebrated for his innovative fusion of global rhythms with Indian classical music. Born into a rich musical heritage, Avirodh was trained by his father, Dr. Ravideen Ramsamooj, Managing Director of the East Indian Music Academy Inc., who instilled in him a deep appreciation for the art of tabla and Indian classical music. With his father’s blessings, Avirodh expanded his knowledge, drawing inspiration from legendary tabla maestros Ustad Zakir Hussain and Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. Combining these influences with his own extensive research, Avirodh has cultivated a distinctive rhythmic aesthetic that sets him apart as an extraordinary percussionist.

Avirodh’s mastery has earned him widespread recognition, with appearances on PBS, NY1, Zee TV, TV Asia, NY TIMES, NPR Radio (Leonard Lopate Show), NY Daily News, and a prominent feature on the Starz Network series, "Flesh and Bone." His international acclaim continued to grow in 2015 when he debuted as a solo tabla artist, performing across Nepal and India, including a standout performance at the prestigious Taj Mahotsav Festival near the Taj Mahal. Sharing the stage with luminaries such as Parveen Sultana, Ronu Majumdar, Taufiq Qureshi, and Shaan, Avirodh proudly represented the West Indies, India, and the United States at this premier festival.

In addition to his live performances, Avirodh's contributions to world music have garnered critical acclaim. He was nominated for the 14th Annual Independent Music Awards for Best World Beat Album for his work on "Melodic Intersect - Inner Vision." The album, which also made the Top 100 list for Best World Music Albums at the 57th Grammy Awards, features collaborations with eminent artists such as Tarun Bhattacharya, and Hidayat Khan.With a unique ability to blend traditional Indian rhythms with global percussive influences, Avirodh continues to push the boundaries of world music while promoting the rich legacy of Indian classical rhythm.

As a performing artist, he has worked with internationally acclaimed artists such as Padmashri Kailash Kher, Amaan and Ayaan Bangash, Karsh Kale, Grammy Winner Vikku Vinayakram, Shivamani, Selvaganesh, Tarun Bhattacharya, Mira Nair, Deepak Ram, Suresh Wadhkar, Steve Gorn, Dilshad Khan, Shakir Khan, Hidayat Khan, the Late Hari Om Sharan, Jazz Legend- David Murry, Patrick Mangan (Riverdance), Hammerstep, B-52's/David Bowie's Sterling Campbell, David Parsons, Kone Kone, Sudhir Narain, Jeffrey Iqbal and many others. Avi has performed with notable ensembles such as the Borromeo Quartet, Queens Symphony, Sufiana, Chakra, Riyaaz Qawaali and Melodic Intersect. He has performed in prestigious venues like Lincoln Center, Joseph Papp. Public Theater, The Old Globe, Hartford Stage, Joyce Theater, Harlem Stage, Joe's Pub, Writers Theatre, Cipriani Ballroom on Wall Street, City Hall, The Marriot on Broadway, National Art Gallery of Bahamas, Kraine Theater, and many others. 
 
As a recording artist, Avi's Album Crossing Continents released in 2022 got raving reviews featuring his unique style fused with Caribbean, Electronic, and Classical Indian Music. It features Grammy Winning Selvaganesh, Fazal Qureshi, Vikku Vinayakram, and friends. He has made guest appearances in albums such as, Patrick Mangan's Departures , Melodic Intersect – Inner Vision, Prana, Tears Apart, and Esha Upanishad. In 2017, Melodic Intersect - Looking Forward has charted #1 for 8 consecutive weeks on world music charts.
 
in 2018, as a composer; Avirodh’s work was featured in a commissioned work by Parsons Dance called Microburst which received many raving reviews. He has also written for West Indian films like, "Till I Find a Place", sitcoms -“The CrazyBeat Show” and the pilot DESICITI which was nominated In 2011 at the NEW YORK CITY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, BANFF World Television Festival and AMPIA Awards for BEST DRAMATIC PRODUCTION UNDER 60 MINUTES and BEST PRODUCTION FOR CULTURAL DIVERSITY. He also Co-Produced a show on Time Warner Cable called “Aaj Ka Sandesh”. His talents have even landed him on industry Fashion Shows where he has performed and arranged music showcasing the work of industry fashion designers. Avi’s groundbreaking work in American Theatre has landed him in productions like Dishwasher Dreams, and No Poem No Song where he has written music scores for Tabla. 
 
Avi is well on his way of becoming a global ambassador of music. Having Trinidadian and Guyanese roots, Avirodh Sharma’s Globalstān is a movement and vision of bridging the music of the West Indies, India, and the world in a manner that transcends time and moves the listener into the “space between the spaces” to promote peace and harmony through World Music. Also, his record company Globalstan Records will be launched soon featuring many acclaimed artists from around the world.
